THE
SOMERSET
TRACTION ENGINE CLUB
The
Club was originally formed some 50 years ago in order to give its members
the opportunity to meet other people with similar interests, to maintain the
interests of members in the activities of the Club, and to promote rallies
and social activities.
Many of our members have traction engines, historical vehicles and agricultural
equipment of their own. Monthly meetings are arranged during the winter months
at a public house, which is accessible to the membership, which covers a wide
geographical area from Devon to Gloucester, West Somerset to Dorset.
The main event in the Club’s calendar is the annual rally – the ‘Somerset Steam Spectacular’, held in July at Low Ham, near Langport. All the planning and organisation for this large public event is a carried out by Club members, and there is ample opportunity for every member to help out in some way.
Further events organised by the Club are the annual New Year’s Day Road Run in Taunton, and recent outings for members have been arranged to Holland, and to various UK destinations to visit various events and locations connected with steam, transport, fairground, or heritage preservation.
A quarterly Newsletter is circulated to members, which contains news and articles of interest. The AGM is held in October, and this is a social event in its own right. More recently, members have been able to enjoy a Christmas Meal in the Festive Season – another popular event.
The Club’s Sales
Officer stocks a good selection of ties, sweat shirts, t-shirts and various
items of club regalia.
